Okay, I admit it. I really despise when people freak out over a storm. It's just some rain, wind and lightening. I understand that all of these things can cause damage, but it seems like the North Texas media just over analyzes and over publicizes a little wind. (And don't get me started on the ice!)
We are the only place I know that shuts down for a 1/2 an inch of snow/ice. I realize that there are dangers that come with storms, but overreacting about these things just doesn't do anyone any good.
We complain when we go weeks at a time without rain and then when we get the rain we act like the sky is falling! Now I will concede that for a brief (about 10 minutes) period of time I was a little nervous last night because of the strong winds. However, I did not need the news stations to interrupt my programming for 3 hours. No fun.
Thunderstorms are romantic. They are fun to watch. They put me at an ease and I LOVE to sleep during them. I think I feel this way because every time there is a thunderstorm it reminds me of how in awe I am of God. He created us and he provides for us. He gives us the rain and sustenance that we need to survive.
And then there's the old adage: I brought you in this world... I can take you out of it.
Thunderstorms are also a good reminder of God's power. He is in control and our worrying doesn't do anything except show our doubt in Him. Trust that He will take care of you and have nothing to worry about!
